Introduction
The Centre for Strategic and Institutional Rating (Pusat SPI) was originally known as the Strategic and Institutional Rating Unit (Unit PSI) and was established on June 1, 2020 under the Vice Chancellor's Office.
The main objective of this unit is it was established for the formation of the University Strategic Plan 2021-2035. In April 2021, the management of the SETARA Malaysian Higher Education Institution Rating System was fully handed over to the Pusat SPI to plan, review and improve the SETARA rating.
On 1 January 2022, Unit PSI was upgraded as The Centre for Strategic and Institutional Rating (Pusat SPI) to empower SETARA, Pelan Strategik UniSHAMS 2021-2035 with an added function of coordinating the e-IPTS system and university audit.
Under the direction of the Pusat SPI, there are five (5) main pillars of the strategy which include the Pillar of Academic Excellence, the Pillar of Student Excellence, the Pillar of Financial Sustainability, the Pillar of Institutional Sustainability and the Pillar of Good Governance. The function of these 5 main pillars is as a driver in ensuring that the planning and direction of UniSHAMS to be more systematic and capable of being competitive in line with today's current education.

- Facilitating and monitoring the implementation and achievement of the Strategic Plan
- Manage the preparation of Strategic Plan performance reports
- Become a think-tank for the development of the university's Strategic Plan
- Coordinate and classify Strategic Plan achievement grades
- Coordinating the management of the Malaysian Higher Education Institution Rating System SETARA, e-IPTS and university audit
