Overview

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education is the highest level of academic study designed to produce scholars, researchers, lecturers, and educational leaders who are capable of contributing to the advancement of educational knowledge, policy, and practice through high-quality research. The programme emphasizes the development of advanced research skills, critical thinking, in-depth data analysis, and the ability to generate new knowledge that has a meaningful impact on educational communities at both national and international levels.

The programme also develops professional competencies in scholarly publication, conference presentations, academic writing, research ethics, and research project management. Graduates are expected to serve as subject-matter experts, policymakers, leaders of educational institutions, professional researchers, or academics who can drive educational transformation in the fields of Educational Psychology, Educational Sociology, Applied Linguistics, Educational Counselling and others related field.

  • Entry Requirement

    1. A Master’s degree in Education field (Level 7 Malaysian Qualifications Framework, MQF) as accepted by the HEP Senate; OR
    2. Master’s degree (non-education) must undergo *prerequisite courses; OR
    3. Other relevant equivalent qualifications recognised by Malaysian government as equivalent to the above requirements.

    * Prerequisite courses: Common Core Education foundation.

    *English Competency Requirement for International Student:

    Achieve Malaysian University English Test (MUET) or any English competency test equivalent to a Low B1 Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

Overview

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) aims to produce researchers and scholars capable of generating new knowledge through original research, critical thinking, and scientific approaches. The programme emphasises the development of research expertise, leadership skills, professional communication, as well as the application of technology and innovation in addressing contemporary issues. In addition, the programme nurtures graduates who are ethical, possess integrity, and are committed to lifelong learning. Graduates are well-prepared to pursue careers in academia, research, industry, and other professional sectors while contributing to societal development and global well-being.

  • Entry Requirements

    1. A master’s degree in the field or related fields accepted by the HEP Senate; or
    2. Other qualifications equivalent to a master’s degree recognised by the Government of Malaysia.
    3. Candidates without a related qualification in the field/s or working experience in the relevant fields must undergo appropriate prerequisite courses determined by the HEP.

    A bachelor’s degree with the following conditions:

    1. a bachelor's degree in the field or related fields with first-class (CGPA of 3.67 or higher) or its equivalent from an academic or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme;
    2. undergo internal assessment; and
    3. any other requirements of the HEP.

    Bachelor’s degree candidates who are registered for master’s degree programmes may apply to convert to the doctoral degree programmes subjected to the following conditions:

    1. within 1 year for full time and within 2 years for part-time candidates;
    2. having shown competency and capability in conducting research at doctoral level through rigorous internal evaluation by the HEP; and
    3. approval of the HEP Senate.

a) The estimated tuition fee for each semester is subject to the number of credit hours taken.
b) Registration and administrative fees are not included.
c) Examination fees are charged at RM20 per subject each semester.
d) A deposit of RM400.00 will be charged and can only be claimed back once the student has completed or discontinued their studies.

International Students
a) All charges excluding Sales & Service Tax (SST) imposed by Malaysian Government.
b) Total tuition fees may vary for each programme depending on total credits taken.
c) Registration and administrative fees are not included.
d) Examination fees  RM50 /subject every semester
e) Deposit RM400 and will be refund back after graduation / withdrawal.
f) Visa processing fee for new student RM2,950 (IM14) & RM3,150 (Indonesia full offer) and subject to SST imposed by Malaysian Government
g) Accommodation is subject to vacancy
