The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Islamic Banking and Finance program at UniSHAMS is designed to produce highly skilled scholars and researchers in the field of Islamic finance and banking, aligning with the evolution of the global Islamic financial industry. This program emphasizes rigorous academic research on theories, applications, and contemporary issues in Islamic finance, including Islamic banking, takaful, Shariah-compliant investments, risk management, and Islamic economic development.
Through either a full-time or part-time research approach, students are guided by experienced lecturers and supervisors to produce high-quality research that contributes significantly to the advancement of both academic knowledge and the industry. Additionally, the program integrates the elements of Maqasid Shariah (objectives of Islamic law), Islamic ethics, and financial innovation to ensure graduates can deliver relevant solutions to current economic challenges.
Graduan of this program are well-equipped to become academic experts, researchers, Shariah advisors, and industry professionals within the Islamic financial sector at both national and international levels.

Master's Degree (Level 7, MQF) in a related field as accepted by the University Senate; OR
-
Master's Degree (Level 7, MQF) in an unrelated field as accepted by the University Senate, subject to relevant work experience and strict internal evaluation; OR

Master's Degree (Level 7, MQF) in an unrelated field as accepted by the University Senate and without relevant work experience, subject to passing prerequisite courses; OR
-
Other qualifications equivalent to a Master's Degree (Level 7, MQF) recognized by the Malaysian Government.
Note
For Doctoral Degree by Research as stated in the Standards: Master’s and Doctoral Degree:
i. There shall be no direct entry from Bachelor’s Degree level to Doctoral Degree level.
ii. However, candidates with Bachelor’s Degree qualification, registered for Master Degree by Research programmes may apply to convert their candidacy to Doctoral Degree programmes.
iii. Application of conversion must be done within one year after candidate registers for Master Degree programmes.
iv. Application approval is subject to:
a. having shown competency and capability in conducting research at Doctoral degree level;
b. rigorous internal assessment by the HEP; and
c. approval by the HEP Senate.
