About Kulliyyah of Medicine & Health Sciences

Kulliyyah of Medicine & Health Sciences (KPSK) was first established in 2010 at the Mergong Campus, Alor Setar.

The MBBS program takes 5 years; The first 2 years (Years 1 & 2) are categorized as pre -clinical phase, the next 2 years (Years 3 & 4) are the basic clinical phase and the last year (Years 5) is the clinical phase. In the first two years students are exposed to theories and concepts related to medicine through classes, tutorials, PBL, SLP and so on at the Kuala Ketil campus. In the last 3 years, students have been placed in several major hospitals in Kedah, namely; Kulim Hospital (Year 3), Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (Year 4) and Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (Year 5). In this phase, learning is done in the hospital ward with patients. Year 4 students also underwent placements in Family Medicine and Public Health at the Alor Setar City Health Clinic, Kuala Kedah Health Clinic and Kota Setar Health Office.


The uniqueness of this programme is that it emphasizes on Islamic value throughout execution of the programme.

Congratulations and Welcome to Kulliyyah of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah.

A medical doctor is a noble profession. It takes a kind and big heart to learn and serve mankind by putting yourself in danger. Remember, your noble work is for Allah S.W.T and only through Him do we have faith.

When you join us, you allow yourself to experience a new and thrilling phase in your life that will prepare you for a career in the medical profession. You also will find that your university education will differ greatly from what you have experienced at school. You will be expected to embark on self-directed and independent learning with support from devoted and skilled academic staff members. This is to prepare you to enter the workforce where qualities such as critical and analytical thinking, independence and creativity are crucial.

The courses that you will go through in the 5 years will prepare you for a career as a health care professional whether in the hospitals, laboratories or behind technologically advanced diagnostic equipment in the clinics or health provider companies. The lectures, tutorials and practicals that you will be attending in the course during the next few years will act as a basis and steppingstone to what we hope will prepare you for a lifelong learning experience. To acquire the desired degree, you have to put in a lot of hard work powered with passion, sacrifice, resolute commitment, perseverance and also dedication to ensuring you will become not only knowledgeable but one of the greatest and skilful health care professionals.

I also hope that you will grab the opportunity to engage productively with your fellow students who may come from different parts of the world and not just with your academic lecturers and mentors. I genuinely wish that your campus life will not be limited to the quest for academic excellence alone but also to use this golden opportunity to enrich your minds in other valuable pursuits whether in the form of community service, sports, multimedia or culture.
