About Kulliyyah of Arabic Language
The Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah International Islamic University's Arabic Kulliyyah (UniSHAMS) was founded in conjunction with the establishment of the Kedah State Institute of Islamic Religion Darul Aman (INSANIAH) in 1996. At that time INSANIAH only offered a Diploma Program and a Bachelor's Degree Program in Arabic 3 +1 jointly with Al-Azhar University, Egypt until 2007.
However, starting in 2004, this Kulliyyah began offering a Bachelor's Degree Program in Arabic with Honors which has been fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
Now Kulliyyah Arabic Language has been in line with other faculties in the world when the MQA has agreed and given permission to this Kulliyyah to run two additional programs namely Master's Degree and Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D) in Arabic.

Kulliyyah of Arabic Language (KBA) UniSHAMS was founded in line with the establishment of Islamic Institute of Kedah Darul Aman (INSANIAH) in 1996. At that time, INSANIAH only offered diploma programmes and a 3 + 1 Bachelor of Arabic Language degree programme which was a twinning program with Al-Azhar University of Egypt until 2007. However, starting 2004, this kulliyyah offers the Bachelor of Arabic Language with Honors (ISMBA) program which has been fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
Alhamdulillah, with the permission of Allah SAW, now Kulliyyah of Arabic Language is moving forward when MQA has agreed and allowed this Kulliyyah to run two additional study programs at the postgraduate level, namely a Master's Degree and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PhD) in Arabic with MQA's approval: PA 9803 dated August 24, 2009, and divided into No. Reference PA 9861 (Bachelor of Arabic) and PA 9862 (Doctor of Philosophy in Arabic Language).
Therefore, with these three study programs on offer, we would like to invite you to explore the academic programs in the coming academic session. KBA has lined up lecturers from Arab countries such as Egypt and Sudan with extensive experience in providing the best quality teaching and learning, in addition supervising the thesis of Master’s Degree and Doctoral Degree programmes.
At the postgraduate level, KBA has three (3) departments, namely the Lughawiyyat Department (Linguistics), the Balaghah & Adab Department (Literature) and the Ta'lim Department (Education).
It is good to say that learning Arabic is an effort to master the language and understand the language of the Qur'an, the Prophetic’s Tradition and inttelectual legacy from our previous scholars. Meanwhile, learning a language and experience it from native speakers is a very wise choice, because students will make every effort to ensure that what they want to convey is finally understood, then immediately correct mistakes after being instructed by native speakers themselves.
